Growing Young Disciples

Learning about Ourselves. Our Church. Our Community. Our World.

Young Disciples at Home

Luke 10:25–37; The good Samaritan

Here are some ways to nurture faith at home based on this week’s story.

(1) Read Luke 10:29–37.

(2) Tell stories of helping injured people or people along the road.

(3) Read Horton Hears a Who by Dr. Seuss or another story of compassion.

Did you know? The road from Jerusalem to Jericho was winding and steep because the elevation drops ________ ft / m.  ...  3,000 ft / 914 m.

Prayer for the week: God, we want to look at the world with eyes of compassion. Give us kind hearts today.

Disciples welcomes all ages, infants through teens to be Young Disciples!

Infants: Disciples Christian has a wonderfully equipped nursery that includes a pager system. The nursery is staffed for all services. So bring your infant and know that they will be cared for in Christ’s love.

Toddlers and preschoolers: These very young disciples are welcomed to be a part of the ‘Young Disciples Moment’ during either service. Afterward, they enjoy numerous activities offered in our nursery, including a light curriculum.

Primary Grades and Chi Rho (middle school): These young disciples are welcomed to be a part of the ‘Young Disciples Moment’ during either service. After the Young Disciples moment, they are off to a learning experience guided by the Gather Round curriculum. Prime Time activities can vary from being a part of an inter-generational project, continuing a project, or playing games in our game room.

Chi Rho - middle school: In addition to Sunday morning activities, this group can participate in a variety of programming including the Community meals, No Strings Attached ministry, Regional and national events, Camp Christian, Journey to Bethlehem, youth choir, diaconate, technology team, fund raisers and special events.

CYF – high school: This group is invited to participate in either the Connections or traditional services. Their Christian experiences will include special events, ranging from lock-ins to General Assembly. Check the calendar for monthly CYF activities.

Annual Trip to Chautauqua: The annual fall kick-off event is a trip to Chautauqua to reconnect. The weekend, for those in 6th through 12th grade, includes worship, fellowship, recreation and fun!

Mission Trips: The youth of Disciples Christian Church go on mission trips. Some have taken us far from home; some have been right in our own backyard. All have given our youth an unforgettable combination of spiritual growth, an opportunity to work with friends, gain valuable knowledge and discover a genuine appreciation for God’s world.
