Come Worship at Disciples
We invite you to worship with us Sunday mornings at 10:00 A.M.
We combine the best and most meaningful elements of contemporary and traditional worship experiences in our “Fusion” style of worship. Music and style will be constantly evolving. Suggestions are always welcome.
Upon arrival, you will enter into our lovely sanctuary that is filled with wonderful natural lighting from a wall of windows looking out in a rose garden courtyard. Visitors will receive a Sunday bulletin that lists the order of events during the service; events marked with an asterisk icon indicate that the congregation will stand, if able.
At various times throughout the service, the congregation sings hymns, listed by number in the bulletin. The congregation may also read responsively from the Bible, on the screen at the front of the sanctuary or printed prayers from the bulletin. There are hymnals and Bibles in each pew, but you may listen silently if you desire.
Every Sunday, communion consisting of grape juice and bread will be offered at the communion table for those who wish to participate. If you are unable to come forward we can bring communion to you in your seat. By filling out your name and address, you can get to know others sitting next to you. A collection plate will also be passed; donations will help Disciples Christian Church work to better the community, but visitors are neither required nor expected to donate.
We offer additional worship opportunities during the year, including, but not limited to, Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter. Check our website for specific times and occasions.
The music ministry at DCC is all about invitation and transformation through music and singing together. We don’t define ourselves as “traditional” or “contemporary” or “blended”. We choose music from ALL genres and styles, based on the liturgy and theme of the service. In a service we might sing a hymn from the Chalice Hymnal accompanied by the lovely Casavant organ, a praise song from South Africa, a prayer song in a Taize style, sacred jazz, a spiritual, Latin American praise chorus–you name it! Most important to us is that our music inspires and invites people to prayer and spiritual connection as a part of their daily faith journey. We have a group of dedicated singers who lead singing and an amazing drummer and bassist that enhance our musical life.
Music Director, Amanda Powell brings a wealth of musical experience both inside and outside of the church.
The Lord’s Supper is a part of every Sunday morning worship service at Disciples Christian Church. The practice of Holy Communion is the central element of worship in the Disciples of Christ tradition. The invitation to participate is open to all. Everyone who is present in worship is invited.
At the Table, we remember when Jesus shared bread and wine with his disciples on the eve of his crucifixion. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we receive the Living Christ’s invitation to share in the bread and the cup, representative of the body and blood of Jesus. The presence of the living Lord is affirmed and he is proclaimed to be the dominant power in our lives.
Sunday Nursery and Young Disciples Moment
The church provides a nursery for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers at both services led by our nursery attendant, Kaitie Dever; if you cannot find it, an usher can give you directions. Pagers are available upon request.
At both services, primary grades, middle schoolers, and high schoolers are invited up for a special youth and young disciples sermon gathered around our Young Disciples Director, Kathy Smith at the front of the church.
They are then led to a classroom area for a children’s program, which ends at the same time as the service (around 11:00 A.M.). If your child would be more comfortable with a parent, feel free to go with them to the children’s message and to their classroom.
Sunday Prime Time
Our adult education is every Sunday around 11:30 A.M. We have lectures, videos, booklets and other things that help us continue our education of the Bible and occasionally have outside speakers that give presentations about their activities and the community.
In the Christian Church baptism is the religious rite of sprinkling water onto a person’s forehead or of immersion in water, symbolizing purification or regeneration and admission to the Christian Church. Our church performs immersion baptisms. Anyone can profess their faith and be baptized in our church after attending classes with our minister.
The child is presented to the congregation, and vows are made by the parents and the congregation to raise him or her in the Christian tradition, in the same way as the more common infant baptism is performed in other churches, but the child is not “christened” with water, as infants are unable to make a profession in Jesus Christ.
Listen to Sermons
Our services are recorded and archived. Most of our sermons and some other parts are available online so that you can listen to them at a later time in case you missed one or would like to listen again.
