Our Church Library became the Sheedy Library in 1974 when a bequest from Lois Sheedy provided funds to upgrade it. Mrs. Sheedy loved books and often sponsored special book reviews for the Christian Women’s Fellowship. The new Fireside Library is a gift from the Duane Mayhew family in memory of his wife, Eleanor. The Library is funded by interest from the Sheedy bequest, by monetary or book gifts from members of the congregation and book-loving friends, and by a line item in our annual church budget. Our Librarians have included Betty Berlin, Margaret Beer, Pat Muetzel, and Rev. Cynthia Barnard-Sheldon.
About the Fireside Library:
Most of the books and other materials in our Library are for circulation. Some materials in the reference section are for use only within the church building. This Library is set up using the Dewey Decimal System.
The books in the basket on the floor are not catalogued and do not have cards. They are books donated by Book Club members and other readers who are willing to share them. Feel free to take them to read and then return them to the basket.
Please view our Fireside Library brochure for more information.
How can I find the resource I need?
The church library catalog is being computerized. All our materials are not yet in the system, so feel free to browse and check out books by simply signing the card in the back and then put the card into the sign-out box on the desk. Anything you borrow should be returned within two or three weeks.
What type of resources does our library provide?
The library has excellent resources for many of the church programs for all ages including books on prayer, church literary, Disciples of Christ, references, biographies, fiction, New Testament, life of Christ, both video and audio offerings and much more.
Can I donate books?
The books in the basket on the floor are not catalogued and do not have cards. They are books donated by Book Club members and other readers who are willing to share them. Feel free to take them to read and then return them to the basket. Remember that new books for the basket are always welcome.
