It can sometimes be easy to say “All Are Welcome”, but in practice, even for a progressive congregation, it can be challenging to actually practice. Did Jesus really welcome all? Mostly. But even for Jesus, there were times, like when Jesus refuses to heal the daughter of a Canaanite woman, because he believes her people were “lesser” than the Jewish people. Jesus eventually comes to see the woman’s full humanity and heals her daughter, but it was a struggle even for him. It often isn’t easy, but you are welcome to struggle with us as we seek to live out a community where “All” really means “All”.

At Disciples, we strive to welcome all, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, culture, citizenship, political affiliation or any other divisions that exist in our society today. In living out this value, we seek to practice being a Church that is multi-cultural, multi-generational, and inclusive across religious and political beliefs. Our Church building currently houses two additional worshiping communities besides ours, Peoples Church and Cleveland City Vineyard. Members of our congregation don’t always agree with one another, but we absolutely always seek to love and to see the common humanity in one another.

In a real sense all life is inter-related. All men are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be, and you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be... This is the inter-related structure of reality.
— Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
